Inflight passenger announcements
With so much information at our fingertips, you could presume that preparing for parenthood would be easy. You push the red button and your child will start doing A, you push the green button and your child will stop doing B.
But when the baby finally arrives... you realize that children are, at best, unpredictable. There are some days when you feel like the pilot gliding through an endless blue sky.
While most of the time your children have hijacked the plane and you're in the cockpit not knowing what to do in an emergency. Was it the red button or the green? What happens if I cut the purple cable? Can somebody google something?
Parenting is like crash landing on your very own desert island. Squillions of people have done it before, squillions of people are doing it now, and there will be many more squillions to come. Yet somehow, you've never felt so alone. "It takes a village to raise a child", they say, but it's almost impossible to find the villagers, and when you finally find them you discover that they speak another language.
Crash Landing aims to be an online village where parents can chat, laugh, cry , and learn together about the most wonderfully exhausting and exhilarating job on Earth (and the one you can be least prepared for!) We've teamed up, a Teacher Mom and a Journalist Mom, to have an open discussion about the Ups and Downs of parenting.
We have between us: a baby, a toddler, a schoolchild, a teenager and two adult children. On our journey of parenting we've learned that it helps to have co-pilots when you're trying to land a plane in an emergency. Welcome to the flight. We hope that together we can achieve a smoother landing or better still, help you find the treasure on your desert island.
In any case, please assume the bracing position.
